Castlegar's parks, trails, and green spaces are among the things that make our community such a great place to live. We should take pride in maintaining these spaces while investing in opportunities to make them more accessible, welcoming, and useful for residents of all ages. By caring for the places that bring us together, we can strengthen the connections that make Castlegar feel like home.
Parks and Services
Revitalize Zinio Park
Zinio Park is in a prime location and has enormous potential to become a more valuable part of our community. We should take a fresh look at how this space can best serve Castlegar's residents.
That could mean investing in the park and improving its facilities so that more residents can enjoy it, or exploring whether a portion of the site could be thoughtfully redeveloped to help address our community's housing needs. Whatever direction we take, the goal should be to make sure this valuable public asset is being used to its greatest benefit for Castlegar.
Build a Youth Centre
Years ago, our community recognized the importance of giving young people a safe, welcoming space to call their own. Since then, local youth have continued to advocate for a dedicated youth centre, including petitions to the city, but the project has yet to become a reality.
It's time for Castlegar to look at the
feasibility of following through. A dedicated youth centre would give young people a place to build friendships, develop skills, find support, and participate in their community. Investing in our youth is an investment in Castlegar's future.
Introduce a Seniors Planning Table
Seniors have helped build the community we enjoy today, and their voices should have a meaningful place in shaping its future. I would support creating a seniors planning table that brings older adults together with City leadership to share their experiences, identify community needs, and help shape the policies and services that affect them.
By giving seniors a stronger voice in local decision-making, we can work together to reduce social isolation, support healthy and active aging, and make Castlegar a more welcoming community for people at every stage of life.
