Chance Boruck Announces Candidacy for Castlegar City Council

CASTLEGAR, B.C. — Chance Boruck has announced his candidacy for Castlegar City Council, bringing a background in community services, hospitality, and local programming to his campaign.

Boruck currently works in the non-profit sector, helping provide community services and programs for youth, seniors, and families in Castlegar. His professional background also includes years in the tourism and hospitality industry, which he says gives him perspective on how to develop Castlegar to make it an even more attractive place to visit, live, and play.

Boruck says his campaign will focus on three key areas: affordability, connectivity and community, and transparency and financial responsibility.

Affordability

Making it easier to build more housing will be one of Boruck’s central priorities. He wants the city to explore ways to incentivize responsible housing development and reduce unnecessary barriers to creating new homes and rental housing. Boruck says increasing housing options is an important part of addressing affordability and ensuring that people who work and contribute to the community can continue to afford to live here.

Connectivity & Community

Boruck wants council to seriously pursue the feasibility and funding opportunities for a pedestrian connection between Selkirk College and downtown. Boruck argues that the bridge would improve Castlegar's connectivity and create more opportunities for students, businesses, and residents to interact. He believes that a bridge would connect two important parts of the city to help support local businesses, increase activity downtown, and make the area livelier through increased foot traffic.

Having worked directly with youth, seniors, and families, Boruck says he understands the importance of accessible community programs and public spaces. He wants to see Castlegar continue investing thoughtfully in parks and services that bring people together and contribute to the community’s quality of life.

Transparency & Financial Responsibility

Greater transparency and communication between city government and residents will be another priority. Boruck says residents should have a clear understanding of how decisions are made, where public money is being spent, and why council chooses particular priorities.

“People should feel informed and included in the decisions that affect their community,” Boruck said. “Transparency builds trust, and I want to help create a culture where residents can easily understand what their city government is doing and hold elected officials accountable.”

“I believe we can improve Castlegar without asking residents to simply pay more. I want to approach City Hall with a practical and evidence-based mindset. Council should identify the problem, understand the cost, look for partnerships and outside funding, and then determine what provides the best value for residents.”

For Boruck, running for council is ultimately about giving back to the community he works in and helping address the pressures facing residents.

His experience in hospitality and community services has kept him closely connected with people from different backgrounds and stages of life. He says that experience has reinforced his belief that local government can have a meaningful, practical impact on people’s everyday lives.

“I’m running because I care about Castlegar and the people who live here. I want to bring my experience working with people from across our community to council and help make decisions that are practical, responsible, and focused on the future. I want Castlegar to be a community where people can afford to live, where businesses and residents are connected, and where people can trust their local government.”
